Full Blown Toddler

The last five months have gone by in a complete flash, as when I am not working, buying a house (more later) or chasing a toddler - then I am sleeping (or lying awake thinking of all of the above).

Somewhere in it all, Elena has moved from a baby, to a full fledged toddler/kid. She is currently learning at least a word a day, communicating in short sentences and working on potty training.

When she isn't doing that, she is letting me know how much she is "in charge" - favorite current phrases to this end include "mama sit" or "mama stop" or as soon as she wakes up in the morning "mama play". Apparently she learns her "bossiness" from me... no comment...

So far we haven't quite hit the "toddler twos" and, a handful of brief tantrums aside, she seems to be using her words rather than her screams. We will see how long that lasts. She has gotten a bit more pickier in food and the foodie in me, or the guilty mom, not sure which is wondering if a diet of turkey, chicken, hot dogs, peas, carrots, pasta, mashed potatoes and fruit is really a good enough diet for her. However, if she's eating that's ok in my book, for now.

For the most part, she keeps us laughing. The things that she comes up with continually crack me up and leave me wondering where she gets things from. From walking around talking on her phone (which ranges from anything between an actual phone or a compact mirror) to making funny faces, everything is fun or a game.

She is very into picking her own clothes and dressing herself, which has recently resulted in outfits such as; tights plus jersey, elmo shirt and her soccer shorts and no shirt plus a shirt as a skirt. Other favorite moves include walking around in dad's shoes or my slippers. Perhaps she will be a fashion designer someday.

Her favorite things are still her baby and her monkey and she really enjoys what daycare calls "dramatic play"... I called it pretending to cook in the play kitchen... but apparently there is more to it than that ;)
