We had our first, of what I hope will be many, family vacations.
For our first chance at fun in the sun, we headed to Grand Cayman, and I am so glad that we did.
We had a fantastic trip and couldn't have asked for more.
Upon checking in we got upgraded to a two bedroom suite, which made our lives so much easier.
Having separate bedrooms, having a kitchen and a huge living space made everything so much more like home.
Elena slept so well the whole time, and I can't say enough about how much the sun, sand and salt water help knock kids out.
We will definitely have to keep that in mind for future vacations!
Our first vacation was full of firsts for both our family and for Elena.
Elena saw the ocean for the very first time, got to feel sand between her toes and had some first hand fun with wildlife.
She really loved the ocean, as long as she was looking at it or tentatively walking in it and she had no interest in sitting down and having the waves crash onto her and much more preferred having a safe distance.
She was ok with sand, as long as it didn't stick to her hands too much and get her all "dirty". We only had one brush with it going in her mouth and she clearly didn't like how it tasted/felt, and so we didn't have a problem with that again.
Elena had a blast playing in the pool and watching all of the big kids. She clearly wants to be bigger and be able to keep up with the big kids and it was so cute to watch her chasing after the kids, soon enough she will be just as big, which is hard to believe.
She truly showed that she had no fear, both when she would pet the sea turtles at the turtle farm and went we went snorkeling at the sand bar with the sting rays and she had no problem touching them and watching them swim below her.
Oh, and what trip wouldn't be complete with some treat. I got a free mini ice cream cone after dinner, and after seeing Elena drooling over it, I gave her some. Needless to say, after one lick she grabbed the cone with both hands and went after it. Seems like she likes ice cream... looking forward to seeing what she does with her birthday cake next month!
Overall, we had wonderful weather, fantastic food and truly warm people. We will definitely be going back!
