We headed out with a group to watch Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Finals last night. From a packed house in Wrigleyville at Vines, we screamed, we yelled, we held our breath, and finally we celebrated.
As the game headed into overtime the crowd was definitely into it and responded to everything... except for that last goal in overtime. When Kane shot the winning goal, sliding it under the goalies pads, there was no light, there was no signal, there was no sound... it was as if you could hear a pin drop in Philadelphia. There was less hesitation on the ice as Kane threw his hands in the air, then threw away his stick and gloves, skating the length of the ice with an entire roster chasing him. The bar was silent... there were calls around us of "where is the puck" it seemed like hours, but really only a few seconds passed before at last "GOAL!!!!" was shouted from the speakers and the celebration erupted. Beer showers from above for everyone in the bar and we all escaped into the street, where there was mass revelry. The helicopters above us recorded the action and of course, I had to join in on the fun. On our walk back, I even got to kiss the cup!
